Along with Surface Pro 2, Microsoft has launched Surface 2 as well, which unlike the first generation loses the word "RT" in the name. Underneath its beautiful 10.6-inch Full HD display, it packs a powerful Tegra 4 processor. It will be released in Italy from October 22 with a price tag of 439 Euros.
Microsoft will be launching the successor to the Surface RT in Italy in the month of October – October 22 to be specific. Say goodbye to the Surface RT and welcome to the Surface 2. This new tablet from Microsoft will be joined by Surface Pro 2, but unlike its first generation sibling, it loses any reference to the OS (Windows RT) in its name. Surface 2 includes a faster processor, Nvidia Tegra 4 (Cortex A15) that has four cores, 4 GB of RAM, 32 / 64GB flash storage and cleartype display measuring 10.6 inches Full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixels (vs 1366 x 768 pixels 10.6 inch screen of Surface 1 RT). It’s also thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Microsoft touts that its battery life has increased by over 25 percent and they now claim up to 10 hours of video playback. It will be available in new silver color too, if black is not your cup of tea.
Ideal for personal use, the Surface 2 offers all the functionality for gaming and entertainment that you would expect from a tablet. Of course, you can work too, thanks to Office RT and Internet Explorer 11. Microsoft has replaced the USB 2.0 ports with USB 3.0 for faster file transfers (up to four times faster). The cameras of the Surface 2 has been improved as well: the front has a 3.5 megapixel camera, while the rear features a 5 megapixel camera. Both are capable of capturing video in 1080p and offer superior performance in low light, so that the conversations with your favorite contacts will now be even more crisp and clear.
To allow consumers to get the most out of new Surface tablet, customers who purchase one of the two tablets will receive free Skype calls for a year to landlines in over 60 countries, and unlimited Skype WiFi account for a year from more than 2 million hotspots around the world and 200 GB of free storage on SkyDrive for two years.
Surface 2 runs Windows RT 8.1 and comes with improvements in key areas such as personalization, search, multitasking, native apps, the Windows Store and cloud connectivity. You will also have access to the new Xbox Music that allows you to stream millions of songs for free. You also get access to exciting games available on Windows Store like Halo: Spartan Assault, for non-stop fun. As said earlier, Surface 2 comes with Microsoft Office 2013 RT preloaded which includes Outlook RT.
Surface 2 will be available in Italy (and in 21 other markets) by 22 October in two configurations – 32 GB and 64 GB starting from 439 Euro.
